Los Angeles, CA - Promoting a new holiday album, "Merry
Christmas with Love," singer and "American Idol"
runner-up Clay Aiken answered questions about his singing
career, his immense popularity, and once again confused reporters
with quasi-admissions concerning his sexual orientation.
"I am really proud of this new album," Aiken responded
when asked whether or not he was, in fact, gay. "Christmas
music is timeless and I am hopeful all kinds of people will
enjoy this album as much as I enjoyed recording it."
"Do you think more gays will buy your Christmas album?"
queried another reporter. "And if so, are you actively
trying to 'gay-up' Christmas this year?"
Aiken was asked repeatedly about his personal life, whether
or not he is dating anyone and does it involve a man
and lots of gay sex.
Aiken made several attempts to steer the questions to ones
relating to his new album and tour, with little success.
"What is your favorite Christmas song of all time?"
one reporter finally asked. When Aiken answered "The
Little Drummer Boy," Aiken was then asked if there was
a secret gay message in that particular song coincidentally,
the gayest of all Yuletide classics.
"How will you be promoting the new album and could you
rank your gayness on a scale from one to ten?" another
reporter asked.
"I like women," Aiken finally acknowledged. "I
just don't like-like women. I mean I don't like-like any particular
woman right now. You know what I mean! Oh God, please
don't print that!".
Despite the public denials, Aiken was invited to be the
grand marshall at the annual Gay Pride Parade in New York
City next summer.
I told the committee that it might be more appropriate
to give this honor to someone who was actually gay,"
Aiken said. "They just laughed and told me they needed
an answer by next week. Whatever."
