Glendale, CA Pop diva Christina Aguilera reaffirmed
her connection to the Latin community by consuming a taco
during a record-signing at the Glendale Galleria mall on Sunday.
"Im a proud Latina and Im not afraid to
show it," said Aguilera as she brushed a strand of Nordic
blonde hair away from her icy blue eyes. "The reason
I don't normally don't eat Mexican food is because it's cheap
and unappetizing."
Aguilera, who was born in New York and lived the bulk of
her life in Pennsylvaniain a suburban area she quaintly
refers to as "the barrio"says that, whether
her fans know it or not, she has a strong connection with
her roots. "When I was young, my whole family used to
gather around the TV and watch reruns of Chico and the Man.
That show first showed me how much better it was to be American."
As Aguilera bit into her authentic Mexican-style taco (provided
by Taco Grande), the crowd roared its approval.
But not all the spectators were pleased. One reporter asked
Aguilera if she was just trying to promote her upcoming Spanish-language
album. "Not at all," said Aguilera between bites.
"I just want to prove to everyone that Im a genuine
Latina through and through. Could I get some ketchup for this?"
