Gloversville, New York -- To many, Hollywood has
long been considered the place where dreams are made, but
not to Seth Allen, who made public Friday his claim that the
coveted role of Spiderman in the upcoming summer movie was
stolen from him.
Allen, 32, a comic book collector and self-proclaimed "Spidophile,"
was sewing up a patch in his homemade Spiderman outfit when
he heard the news on "Entertainment Tonight" that
actor Tobey McGuire would get the part instead.
Breaking his media silence, Allen answered reporters' questions
from "his apartment" in the basement of his parent's
home. "I know I should just keep quiet on the matter,"
Allen began, "But I was supposed to get that role. Now,
because of McGuire and those lying, thievin' movie producers,
it won't ever happen."
According to Allen, a costumer working for Warner Bros. approached
him and offered him $50 for the homemade Spiderman suit he
happened to be wearing. They haggled for 20 minutes until
the as yet unidentified woman offered to hire Allen for the
role Spiderman. The two shook hands on the deal but he never
heard from her again.
"Not only have I lost the role of Spiderman, but that
ass monkey Tobey McGuire got the part. I bet he doesn't even
know who Peter Parker's first serious love was or the secret
identity of The Lizard, or w where the alien half of Venom
came from. But worst of all, the thought of Tobey McGuire's
private parts resting in the crotch of my costume is too much
to bear."
Allen revealed that his love of Spiderman dates back to childhood
and boasts the single largest memorabilia collection in the
Tri-state area. "While the other kids were busy playing
sports and dating, I was in my room saving the world from
The Scorpion, Electro, and of course, Doctor Octopus. Those
were some of the best days of my life."
Allen's mother Betty, remembers it fondly. "Every day
after school, he'd come home and do one of his various Spidey
exercises like hanging upside down, crouching down low for
hours at a time, or asking me to throw things at him while
his back was turned so he could hone his 'Spider Sense.' I
don't think it's fair that the part should go to someone else
just because Seth isn't a celebrity or trained actor."
Despite the fact that the filming of Spiderman is complete
and the release date of May 3rd is set, Allen is still plotting
ways to beat McGuire out for any potential sequel and has
issued a trivia challenge to the young star.
"If they want me to go away, all they have to do is
bring McGuire to me and have him answer some simple trivia,
Allen said. If he can look me in the eye and say 'Gwen Stacy',
'Dr. Curt Connors,' and 'the hybrid planet assembled by the
Beyonder for the purpose of the Secret Wars,' then I'll concede
and never bring it up again. I think that's more than fair."
