Dayton, OH - Tammy Birnbaum is about to begin her
freshman year in college next week and like thousands of others
her age, she is looking forward to finally shedding her high
school reputation as a boyfriend-stealing skank and start
anew in college.
"Kids hated me because I was different,
not just because I slept with their boyfriends or fathers,"
Birnbaum said. "I sort of went through this whole Satanist
phase, and then dabbled in self-mutilation, lesbianism and
boyfriend-stealing. Then, later in high school, I gave all
that up and just wore black and listened to goth music but
I couldn't get rid of that bad reputation. It was really unfair.
I'm sure college life will be much different -- especially
when I join a sorority."
Birnbaum says her reputation as a social outcast
was most noticeable when she didn't make the high school cheerleading
squad, though she insists she just wanted to join to make
fun of the popular girls. Still, after four years of tryouts
and attending a private cheerleading camp every summer, Birnbaum
downplays her desire to "be like those other snobby girls,
whom I detest."
"I didn't really care about cheerleading
or prom," Birnbaum said. "I only showed up to prom
because I wanted to make fun of all the people there and wear
a goth prom dress that I made myself out of black duct tape
and rusty nails. And the only reason I didn't have a date
because I wanted to concentrate on showing everyone how dumb
it was."
"I'm very complex," Birnbaum added.
"I read books and wear black clothes and the other kids
obviously feel threatened by me because I'm smarter than them.
It has nothing to do with being promiscuous or starting fistfights."
Birnbaum is enthusiastic, however, now that
she's finished high school and heading off to college, people
will not only appreciate her differences but she will become
popular and other girls will try to emulate her.
"I can't wait until I become involved
in sorority life, where I will be able to shine as the individual
and develop a whole new reputation where people won't judge
me unfairly for giving members of the maintenance crew a blowjob
behind the gymnasium. In fact, I'll probably be admired for
stuff like that."
